There is a star in each one of us. Young ones are the hope for the future, and we, at Boston Sargam, Inc. strive to bring forth the radiance in you by providing you the opportunity to showcase your talent. Coming fall we present to you a unique music & dance competition, where young artists in the Boston and neighboring areas will share the stage with the very best.
We are accepting entries for the auditions now, so please send in your entries today! Audition dates will be communicated via email to all the participants. |

How to Participate
There are a limited number of slots available in each category of the competition, so send in your entries today! Auditions will be held before the final performance. Fill out a registration form and register today for the above competitions through our website www.bostonsargam.org. (By registering, a participant agrees to abide by the rules & regulations set forth by Boston Sargam, Inc. who is governing the competition.) |
Event Rules
SOLO SONG
Age Divisions: a) 10 to 16 b) 17 to 27 c) 28 and over
The song shall be:
- comprised of lyrics from a Bollywood movie/album song.
- performed without referring to any written lyrics.
- a solo item performed by an individual as a single number.
- a minimum length of 3 minutes and a maximum length of 4 minutes.
- selected by the participant and performed on karaoke tracks for the auditions.
- chosen by the participant from a song list provided by Boston Sargam panelists and performed on karaoke tracks for the finals. Finalists will also get to perform with live instrumental music. Practice session with live music will be arranged a few days prior to the finals.
- After registering through our website, email us a MP3 audio clip of your performance. Based on your audio clip, selections for the auditions will be made and audition timings will be notified via email. The final performance will require you to present a single song. Finalists will be notified of any additional or altered rules.
- Based on the number of entries, sub-divisions could be altered.

SOLO DANCE
Age Divisions: a) 10 to 15 b) 16 and over
The dance routine shall be:
- to the tunes of Bollywood songs.
- a solo item performed by an individual.
- a minimum length of 3 minutes and a maximum length of 4 minutes.
- performed as a single item which could include variation in styles.
- After registering through our website, email us a 3 minute digital video clip of your performance. Based on your video clip, selections for the auditions will be made and audition timings will be notified via email. The final performance may require you to present variations in dance styles. Finalists will be notified of any additional or altered rules. For help uploading your clip, contact us.
- Based on the number of entries, sub-divisions could be altered.

GROUP DANCE
Age Division: a) 10 and over
The dance routine shall be:
- to the tunes of Bollywood songs.
- performed by a group comprised of minimum 6 and maximum 14 members.
- a minimum length of 4 minutes and a maximum length of 6 minutes.
- performed as a single item which could include variation in styles.
- After registering through our website, email us a 4 minute digital video clip of your performance. Based on your video clip, selections for the auditions will be made and audition timings will be notified via email. The final performance may require you to present variations in dance styles. Finalists will be notified of any additional or altered rules. For help uploading your clip, contact us.
- Based on the number of entries, sub-divisions could be altered.

General Rules & Guidelines
- All the participants should satisfy the specified age criteria as of June 15, 2010.
- Each category of the competition will be judged and awarded separately.
- The song tracks for the dance routines - solo and group performances are to be submitted on a CD at least 2 weeks prior to the competition. There should be only one track on each CD and the CD should be clearly labeled with the entry category, participant’s/group’s name, song name, song length, and choreographer name. The cue should not exceed 5 seconds at the beginning of the music. For identification purpose, the CD and track are to be clearly marked and labeled.
- On the day of the competition dance participants are also responsible for a backup CD that is similarly marked and labeled.
- No cassette player will be available at the venue.
- Special effects such as smoke, disco balls etc. and safe props will be allowed. Approval needs to be received ahead of time, and these will need to be set-up & removed from the stage in the limited time between performances.
- For safety reasons, no confetti, grains or small breakable objects that may require cleaning between performances or destructive props such as knives, fire, glass, water, etc. will be allowed on stage. The stage must be left clean by the performers.
- Professional or semi-professional singers and dancers should not participate.
- Participants are to be present backstage at least 15 minutes prior to their assigned time. ‘No shows” will forfeit their chance to participate.
- All performances are held before a public audience. No changes in category, entry participants or ages will be made on the day of the competition.
- All dance routines, choreography, music and costumes should be appropriate for family viewing.
- Contestants may enter in multiple competitions and they must perform in the order in which they are scheduled, however considerations will be made for costume changes and these must be approved by the directors ahead of the event. Boston Sargam, Inc. cannot be responsible to provide adequate time for changes etc. between the events. Entries to be submitted for each competition.
- The competition will be run according to a predetermined schedule, but each competitor must be prepared to compete out of order. This may be necessary to prevent delays in the competition. No special time requests will be accepted.
- Each competitor will be provided with a state of the art video to purchase. Personal video camera recording will be permitted from designated areas.
- All contestants must be able to provide proof of their age if required.
Boston Sargam, Inc. at any time reserves the right to reject applications that do not meet the selection criteria. |
Auditions / Finals
- Winners will be decided by a panel of judges appointed by Boston Sargam, Inc. and all decisions will be final. No appeals will be permitted.
- Song category, points will be adjudged based on the quality of voice, rendition, choice of song and its level of difficulty.
- Dance category points will be adjudged based on the presentation, choreography, level of difficulty, facial expression, costume/jewelry and overall impression.
- Point Deductions: exceed/under the time limit; inappropriate content; coaching from the audience or sides of stage; use of restricted items; un-sportsmanlike conduct.

Awards
Awards which include trophies and cash prizes will be presented to the winners in each category. In addition to the judged winners in each category, there will be one all star People’s award chosen by the audience. This single award will be separate from the other officially judged awards.
The Jury reserves the right to divide any award between more than one contestants. The competition is of fair nature, and solely based on merit, all decisions being final.
Media exposure (print/internet) will also be given to the winners.
All participants will receive a certificate of participation from Boston Sargam, Inc. |
Terms & Conditions
Boston Sargam, Inc. is not responsible for computer system, hardware, software, or program malfunctions or other errors, failures, or delayed computer transactions or network connections that are human or technical in nature. Furthermore, Boston Sargam, Inc. is not responsible for: (i) lost, misdirected, misplaced, illegible, unintelligible, incomplete, or late entries or (ii) any act, failure to act, or delay regarding the transmitting or processing of entries. Boston Sargam, Inc. reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to cancel or suspend all or any portion of this contest, or extend the duration of the contest, without notice if circumstances beyond Boston Sargam, Inc.'s control, including technical difficulties, disrupt or corrupt the fair or secure administration or operation of the contest. Boston Sargam, Inc. is entitled to interpret these rules as needed and its decisions are final. If any issue arises, and is not clearly addressed in the rules and regulations, the decision of Boston Sargam, Inc. shall be binding. Sportsmanlike behavior is expected of all contestants, teachers and families. Failure to comply could result in disqualification. Boston Sargam, Inc. reserves the right to disqualify any entrant that Boston Sargam, Inc. has reason to believe does not otherwise meet the contest rules. Boston Sargam, also upon its own discretion, has the right to refuse any application. If a winner is disqualified or determined to be ineligible, an alternate winner will be selected using the same judging process/criteria described above. Alternate winners are subject to all requirements set forth in these Official Rules. Participants under 18 are assumed to have received their parent’s permission to partake in this competition. Any photos, video or audio recording that are submitted by the participants or taken during the course of conducting this competition may be used by Boston Sargam, Inc. along with their names for promotional ventures, etc.
By participating in the contest, you agree to release and hold harmless Boston Sargam, Inc. and its officers, directors, affiliates, representatives or volunteers from any and all claims for damages, injuries, causes of actions, or losses of any kind sustained from your participation in this contest, including infringement of intellectual property rights. Boston Sargam, Inc. and its officers, directors, affiliates, representatives and volunteers assume no responsibility or liability for any damages, injuries, claims, causes of actions, or losses of any kind arising in whole or in part from this contest.
